European Athletics Championships: Franceskakis in the hammer throw final

Christos Franceskakis reached the hammer throw final at the European Athletics Championships in Munich. Athlete Kostis Papamarkakis sent the hammer to 76.33 meters on the first attempt, this result was enough to reach the final of the competition. Frantzeskakis then made an unsuccessful attempt, deciding not to take his third shot as he was within qualifying.

Franceskakis advanced to the final, finishing eighth in scoring. Michalis Anastasakis, who finished 19th with a score of 70.84 meters, did not qualify for the final.

“I had a good first hit. I knew it was enough to get into the top 12. The first group did not do well. In the second frame I tried to make an individual record, or to catch the limit for the final. I was in a hurry and took the wrong shot. I left him on the last throw to rest until tomorrow,” Franceskakis said after his qualification.

At the final challenge, the Greek thrower remarked: To be honest, I’m in good shape, but so are the others. In fact, I can’t go against them. The medal will be played for 80 meters. I’ll try for a personal record, honors. I will do everything possible.”
