Russia refuses to receive turbine for Nord Stream from Germany

Russia’s Nord Stream 1 pipeline gas turbine is ready for use and still in a sealed state in the German city of Mülheim an der Ruhr, there is no progress in resolving disputes with Russia, a Siemens Energy spokesperson said. August 17, in Munich.

According to him, Russia continues to cling to documents and make ridiculous demands. The turbine must be transported to the Russian Federation by truck, so references to the current low water level, which prevents the delivery of equipment by river transport, play no role, the representative said.

Russia’s claims

Russian company Gazprom in June cut gas supplies via Nord Stream 1, citing the lack of a turbine that, along with other equipment, creates pressure to pump fuel. This turbine was repaired in Canada in June and has been in Germany since mid-July, awaiting shipment to the Russian Federation. Gazprom complains about the lack of information about the repair, Siemens Energy rejects these claims.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, during a visit to Mülheim two weeks ago, said Russia was using far-fetched pretexts to cut supplies in breach of contract. According to Scholz, the turbine is ready for use and can be delivered to Russia at any time. “Obviously, nothing, absolutely nothing prevents the transport and connection of this turbine in Russia,” he pointed out.
