
Russia’s Lyudmila Samsonova managed to win her second WTA title after defeating Kaia Kanepi (WTA 37, favorite 6) in the final of the tournament in Washington (WTA 250 category) on Sunday.
Samsonova, who is ranked 60th in the world, needed an hour and 45 minutes to defeat the athlete from Estonia 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
At the age of 23, the Russian player also beat Elise Mertens (30 WTA, favorite 5), Aila Tomljanovic (69 WTA), Emma Redukana (10 WTA/2) and Xia Wang (95 WTA) during the competition.
After the victory at the tournament in Washington, Lyudmila will record a jump in the world ranking by 18 steps, and as of Monday, August 8, she will be on the 42nd place.
Samsonova also has the Berlin 2021 title in her track record.
