Victoria Azarenka, the ex-world leader and double winner of Grand Slam tournaments, announced that she will not be able to participate in the “WTA 1000” tournament in Toronto because she did not receive a visa.
“Unfortunately, I have to withdraw from the tournament in Toronto because my visa was not approved. This is disappointing. I am very sad to miss one of my favorite tournaments. I love playing in Canada where the fans are great and I’ve made a lot of friends over the years. Good luck to everyone in the tournament. See you in Cincinnati!”, the Belarusian athlete wrote on Twitter.
In the first round, Azarenka had to play against the 12th-seeded Swiss Belinda Bencic (Tokyo Olympic champion).
In Toronto, the 15th favorite is Simona Halep, who will face a qualifier in the first round. The match of our athlete will take place on Monday, the time of which will be announced by the organizers later.
