MotoGP: Andrea Dovizioso retires

Andrea Dovizioso has announced his retirement from MotoGP. The Italian Yamaha rider will retire after the San Marino Grand Prix.

Cal Crutchlow will replace him for the last six games of the season. The 36-year-old has won 24 races in his career. He finished second in the 2017, 2018 and 2019 championships with Ducati.

Dovizioso has scored 10 points in 11 Grand Prix this season. The Italian rider is in 22nd place.

“Unfortunately, MotoGP has changed a lot in recent years. The situation is very different from when I started. I never felt comfortable with the bike and couldn’t get the most out of it, despite valuable and constant help from the team and all of Yamaha. The results were negative, but since then I still consider it a very important life experience. When there are so many difficulties, you must be able to manage your situation and emotions well.

We did not achieve the desired goals, but the consultations with Yamaha technicians and my team have always been positive and constructive for both them and me,” Dovizioso said in his farewell message.

“Thanks to Yamaha, my team, WithU and all the other sponsors involved in the project. It didn’t turn out the way we hoped, but we tried. My adventure will end in Misano, but the relationship with all the people who participated in this challenge will remain forever. Thank you all,” concluded the Italian rider.
