“This proposal regarding the non-taxation of pensions below 3,000 lei was discussed, we will support it in the coalition,” Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke said on Tuesday after the PNL meeting.

Answering a question about a possible increase in small or medium pensions, the head of government noted that this topic has not yet been discussed.

The authorities are analyzing whether it is possible to increase the tax-free amount of pensions from the state system above the threshold of 2,000 lei, Finance Minister Adrian Cachiu said on Wednesday at the Victoria Palace.

“The state pension system is currently not taxed up to the amount of 2,000 lei, and it will remain so. We are analyzing whether this tax-free amount can be increased, given that this tax exemption took place in 2017, in the meantime everything has changed in terms of inflation. In the analysis we do, we consider all other pension systems, with the exception of the state pension system, with a view to possible taxation, but on the condition that the contribution is not taxed,” said the Minister of Finance at a briefing after the Government meeting.

According to him, the analysis is carried out jointly with the Ministry of Labour, which has all the data on both the state system and the risk of poverty, so that vulnerable people can be supported.

“We are analyzing this together with the Ministry of Labor, because the Ministry of Labor has all the data on the state pension system, and also has data on the level of serious material deprivation, the risk of poverty, these are elements of consumption. basket, which must be taken into account as such to support vulnerable citizens, especially in this period,” the head of the Ministry of Finance emphasized.

In this context, Adrian Cachiu clarified that this analysis will be presented to the government coalition in the coming weeks, given that the priority is now to fix the budget. “I would not like us to create indicative thresholds (for the release of pensions – no) without an analysis and decision. Everything will be clarified by the fall,” the Minister of Finance also said.
