In a Telegram statement, Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said that the city was hit by rockets fired from the Vampire launcher. He stated that equipment and buildings were damaged both in Belgorod and in the surrounding villages.

Several videos with the consequences of the explosion, which were initially published on Russian channels, appeared on social networks.

The Ministry of Defense of Russia reported that air defense forces shot down eight shells from the Vampyr missile complex over the Belgorod region, and also destroyed two Ukrainian drones, Meduza reports.

Belhorod, a border region bordering Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, has been under frequent attacks by Kyiv forces since 2022. In December, 25 people were killed as a result of one rocket attack on the city.

Earlier on Saturday, Gladkov reported that five people, including a child, were injured as a result of a drone attack on a car moving near the Ukrainian border.

On Friday, President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of trying to disrupt the presidential election, which runs until Sunday and would give him another six years in power.
