Russian President Vladimir Putin, during an address to the nation on Wednesday, said that the warning of Western countries that Russia is preparing to attack Europe is “nonsense”, reports TASS.

“The West has caused conflict in Ukraine, the Middle East and other regions of the world and continues to lie. Now they say without any shame that Russia is planning to attack Europe. We understand that they are talking nonsense,” he said during a large-scale speech that was broadcast live in cinemas in 20 Russian cities.

He also accused Western countries of believing that they “represent world supremacy” and that “Russophobia blinds people and deprives them of their rational abilities.”

Referring to French President Emmanuel Macron’s comments earlier this week about the possibility of Western troops being sent to Ukraine, Putin warned that “the consequences for the attackers will be even more tragic, we have weapons capable of hitting targets on their territory. “

“Why don’t they (NATO) understand that there is a threat of a nuclear conflict?” he asked rhetorically, adding that “the actions of the United States have actually destroyed European security.”

“Without Russia, there can be no lasting peace in the world,” he insisted at one point.

His comments on possible Russian influence in Europe came against the backdrop of many senior officials from NATO member states increasingly speaking out about this danger.
