Russian propaganda has launched the hypothesis that Ukrainian troops are preparing to use chemical weapons at the front against the occupying forces, suggesting that weapons prohibited by international convention may come from our country.

Lieutenant General Ihor Kirillov, the head of Russia’s radiation, chemical and biological defense forces, accused the United States and Ukraine of “frequent violations” of the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, according to the state news agency TASS and a former Izvestia party official.

Moscow questions Washington’s claim that the US has destroyed the last declared stockpile of chemical weapons, and believes that the Ukrainian armed forces are ready to use such bombs in a combat zone.

The Russian general said that the Ministry of Defense of Russia has documented another case of violation of the convention that prohibits them.

“Such chemical weapons, whether chlorpicrin or BZ, are extremely difficult to produce locally. According to an assessment published by the Russian Ministry of Defense, the BZ found in Ukraine has traces linking it to American sources, including that it was produced at the Pentagon’s Edgewood Chemical and Biological Center. According to experts, despite the fact that all BZ stocks have been destroyed, the USA has retained sufficient production capacity for the synthesis of this substance in the amount of up to several tens of tons per year,” Izvestia writes.

The expert consulted by “Izvestia” stated that under these conditions “the ammunition was imported” or Ukraine “manufactured weapons from imported components.”

“In addition, it is unclear how many Soviet munitions were destroyed in Ukraine, as well as in neighboring Bulgaria and Romania during the 26 years of the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons,” the Russian publication also writes.
