The Kremlin on Friday denied a Bloomberg report that Russian President Vladimir Putin had “sent signals” to the United States about possible talks to end the war in Ukraine and that he may consider waiving key demands on Ukraine’s security status, Reuters reported.
The Bloomberg article claims that Putin is “probing the soil” to see if Washington is willing to negotiate, and that he has been in contact with the United States through indirect channels.
Citing two people close to the Kremlin, Bloomberg wrote that Putin “would be willing to stop insisting on Ukraine’s neutrality status and even stop opposing its possible entry into NATO, a threat that served as a justification for Russia’s main invasion.”
On this topic, journalists asked Kremlin spokesman Dmytro Peskov, in particular, whether Moscow is really ready to abandon its demands regarding Ukraine’s neutrality and its possible membership in NATO.
“No, this is a fake message. This is completely untrue,” said Peskov.
At the same time, the Kremlin spokesman reprimanded the Western countries for not condemning the downing of the Russian Il-76 military transport plane, which Moscow attributes to Ukraine and which it claims was carrying Ukrainian prisoners of war, at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Thursday evening, reports EFE.
“Until now, there has been no categorical condemnation of this terrible terrorist attack by Western countries. I did not hear a single word of condemnation,” Dmytro Peskov said at the daily press briefing.
When asked whether the Russian presidency is ready to provide the UN or other international organizations with evidence that would prove Kyiv’s involvement in the downing of the plane or that the Ukrainian authorities knew who was on board the plane, Peskov replied: “I have nothing.” add at this stage”.
“Investigators are working and decisions will be made as they receive all the necessary information,” he added.
