Russia announced on Thursday evening that it was broadcasting the first images of the likely crash site of a Russian Il-76 military plane near the border with Ukraine, which, according to Moscow, was carrying 65 Ukrainian prisoners, AFP reported.
In the almost 40-second clip, the Investigative Committee of Russia, which is tasked with investigating Moscow’s “terrorism”, shows several shots of a wooded area and a snowy field.
The video shows several fallen trees and a large piece of crumpled metal, but no trace of the huge fuselage of the Il-76 military aircraft, which is almost 50 meters long.
This allegedly indicates that 65 Ukrainian servicemen were on board the downed Il-76.
The Russian “Investigative Committee” released a new video of the work of investigators, criminologists and experts at the site of the IL-76 crash in the Belgorod region.

On the ground, in the snow, the video shows hard-to-identify remains and human remains of one or two bodies, blurred, as well as some traces of blood.
AFP could not immediately determine where or when the video was taken.
Russia says Ukraine shot down a Russian warplane on Wednesday with 65 Ukrainian prisoners on board who were to be freed in an exchange with Kiev that day.
In the video released by Russian investigators, nothing directly indicates the presence of these Ukrainian prisoners.
For its part, Ukraine, which remains cautious about the episode, has not confirmed that it shot down the plane, but has stressed its desire to continue targeting military targets on Russian territory.
The Military Intelligence of Ukraine (GUR) stated the lack of “reliable and complete information” about the plane’s passengers.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in turn, called for an international investigation to shed light on this case.
How many bodies would be taken to the morgue after the crash of the Russian plane
After the disaster, the FSB and the Russian military did not allow employees of the State Emergency Service to conduct a protocol inspection of the crash site, the spokesman of the Military Intelligence of Ukraine, Andriy Yusov, also reported.
According to him, five bodies were sent to the local Belgorod morgue, and no human remains are visible on the video from the crash site.
Russia claimed that 65 Ukrainian prisoners, six crew members and three companions were on board.
People’s Advocate Dmytro Lubinets also noted that there are “no signs that there were such a large number of people on the plane” in the photos and videos from the scene.
“I’m not an expert, but if there were even photos and videos of our prisoners of war, (Russia) would have already published them,” Lubinet said, referring to photo evidence from the crash site.
The list of Ukrainian prisoners of war who were allegedly on board the downed plane published in Russian media contains discrepancies, the Human Rights Commissioner of Ukraine reported to Reuters.
“Yes, we found in the list Ukrainian citizens who were already changed before,” said Dmytro Lubinet.
Yusov said the names of the high-ranking officials who were supposed to be on board “are known and will be revealed” as Ukraine plans to present its findings to international investigators.
