
A liquefied gas terminal in the port of Ust-Luga on the Russian Baltic Sea was damaged by a fire, the governor of the region said on Sunday, according to AFP and Reuters.
The terminal, located approximately 170 kilometers west of St. Petersburg and 35 kilometers from the border with Estonia, is operated by Novatek, Russia’s largest natural gas producer, Agerpres reports.
As a result of the fire, there were no casualties, the staff was evacuated, the governor of the Leningrad Region, Oleksandr Drozdenko, reported on Telegram.
He did not specify what exactly caused the fire. According to the Russian news site Shot, some local residents heard a drone and a series of explosions earlier, while the Fontanka website in St Petersburg reported that at least two drones were flying in the direction of the city before the terminal fire was reported.
Three large international ships were near the fire, but there is no information that they were injured, Fontanka also indicated.
