Ukraine accuses Russia of using gas prohibited by the UN Convention on Chemical Weapons against Ukrainian soldiers in the trenches, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Sunday, DPA reports.
In Kyiv, they note that since the beginning of the war, 626 such cases have been recorded, including 51 since January 1 of this year alone.
The explosive, which contains CS irritant gas, also known as tear gas, was dropped from drones or launched by artillery munitions.
The use of this gas in war is prohibited by the UN Convention on Chemical Weapons, a document to which Russia is also a signatory.
Ukrainian accusations could not be verified independently, DPA notes.
According to the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), since the Ukrainian military is equipped with protection against chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, tear gas does not seriously affect them.
However, wearing a gas mask is a hindrance during combat. (Agerpress)
