Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi began a tour of the Baltic states on Wednesday, visiting Lithuania on Wednesday, followed by visits to Latvia and Estonia in the coming days, he said in a post on the X social network, Reuters reported.
- “Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are our reliable friends and principled partners. Today I arrived in Vilnius before traveling to Tallinn and Riga. I will hold talks with the president, the prime minister, the speaker of the Seimas, as well as meet with politicians, mass media and the Ukrainian community. On the agenda are security, integration into the EU and NATO, cooperation in the field of electronic warfare and drones, as well as further coordination of European support. But first of all, our gratitude. For uncompromising support of Ukraine since 2014 and especially now, during Russia’s large-scale aggression,” Zelenskyy wrote on the X social network, formerly Twitter.
Zelenskyi and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda will hold a joint press conference scheduled for 11:25 GMT, Lithuania said separately.
Zelenskyi will also make a public speech, informed Nauseda’s office.
The surprise visit to Vilnius, strongly supported by Kyiv, came at a time when the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine is approaching.
“The presidents will discuss the war in Ukraine, support for Ukraine and its integration into the European Union and NATO,” Nauseda’s office said in a statement.
General David Petraeus, former CIA director and former head of international forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, warned last week that the Republic of Moldova or one of the Baltic states would be President Vladimir Putin’s next target if he wins in Ukraine.
