Of this amount, 3.1 billion will be directed to humanitarian activities within Ukraine, and the difference of one billion dollars will be allocated to communities of Ukrainian refugees in other countries, especially European ones.

About 14.6 million people, i.e. 40% of the population of Ukraine, need humanitarian assistance, after the war with Russia, about 6.3 million people fled from Ukraine to other countries, and about 3.7 million are internally displaced persons, said the spokesperson of the UN office on questions coordination of humanitarian activities, Jens Laerke.

On January 15, this office, together with the UNHCR, will hold a campaign to present humanitarian plans for Ukraine to send the international community a call for generosity for the victims of this war.

The amount of humanitarian aid that the UN has requested for Ukraine this year is less than the $5.6 billion requested last year, but exceeds the amount actually received. In 2023, the UN received only 56% of the requested funds for humanitarian aid provided inside Ukraine, and only 40% of those intended for Ukrainian refugees in other countries.

On the other hand, according to UNHCR, although the majority of Ukrainian refugees say they want to return to their country, only 14% of them say they intend to do so in the near future.
