Russia launched a large-scale missile strike on Ukrainian territory on Monday morning, hitting residential and industrial facilities and injuring several people, Ukrainian officials said, according to Reuters.

As of 6:00 a.m. local time, all of Ukraine is in a state of combat alert, according to the Ukrainian Air Force, these are several waves of cruise missiles, and in some areas, ballistic missiles.

“The enemy mercilessly attacked peaceful cities,” Kryvyi Rih Mayor Oleksandr Vilkul said in the Telegram messenger. According to Vilkul, full information on the extent of potential damages will be made public after the Russian attack is over.

The targets of the Russian attack and the full extent of the strikes are unknown at the time of writing, and Moscow has yet to issue a statement.

Anatolii Kurtiev, secretary of the city council of Zaporizhia (south-east of the country), said in Telegram that the rocket attack on the city resulted in casualties, but did not give details.

At least one woman was injured as a result of the shelling of Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine, Mayor Ihor Terekhov informed Telegram. He said that industrial facilities were damaged, which caused the fire.

Five explosions rang out in the city of Zaporizhia, regional governor Yuriy Malashko said, at least two people were injured. “Rockets hit residential areas,” Malaho wrote in Telegram.

The Ukrainian military in other cities, including Dnipropetrovsk and Khmelnytskyi, also said their cities had suffered a “massive missile strike” from Russia.

After almost two years of war, both sides intensified airstrikes on each other’s territories, failing to achieve significant gains on the front line.

Russia carried out the largest attacks on Kyiv, as well as on the second largest city of Ukraine, Kharkiv.
