The war started on the 673rd day. The US has announced the allocation of $250 million in military aid to Ukraine, the last tranche available without a second vote in the US Congress. Gen. Valery Zaluzhny, commander of Ukraine’s armed forces, said his troops remained on the outskirts of Maryinka after Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Moscow was in control of the now-ruined city, located not far from the Russian-occupied regional center of Donetsk. Zaluzhny also said that Maryinka “no longer exists” due to the destruction caused during the fighting.

08:15Ukraine received more than 38 billion euros ($42 billion) in international aid in 2023 in the context of the ongoing war against Russian invaders, dpa informs.
“This aid allowed us to finance all the necessary expenses,” Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko told Forbes.
Most of the money went to defense against Kremlin forces, but some was also used to fund internal refugees, pensions and state salaries.
According to Serhii Marchenko, 2023 was financially more stable than 2022, but every day of war costs 120 million euros.
Russia launched its invasion last February, and since then Ukraine has received substantial Western support in the form of military equipment and intelligence.
Regarding the coming year, the Ukrainian minister said: “I worry less about 2024 than about 2025.”
This is mainly due to uncertainty about future support from the European Union and the US in 2025, in the context of the 2024 elections in both the EU and the US.
For 2024, Martsenko said that Ukraine needs about 33 billion euros from abroad. (Agerpress)
