The Air Force of Ukraine has published a video showing how Russian kamikaze drones, launched on the night of December 12-13, are shot down with an Igla man-portable anti-aircraft missile system (MANPADS), Ukrainian Pravda writes.

“PORTA with Igla thermal imaging equipment is successfully used on Shahed drones.” Thanks to this modernization, mobile fire teams of the Air Force have become even more effective in the dark.

The video shows downed Shahed drones using the Igla MANPADS and the Pivden anti-aircraft missile system, the commander of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleschuk, wrote in Telegram.

The Russians attacked Ukraine with 10 Shahed drones and 10 ballistic missiles on the night of December 12-13, but all were successfully shot down, Ukrainians say.

Russia’s second missile attack on Kyiv this week injured at least 53 people, destroyed homes and destroyed a children’s hospital, Ukrainian officials said Wednesday, as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy pleaded for more aid to his country.

Windows were blown out in apartment buildings, and frightened residents went outside to assess the damage. Debris from the rocket made a large crater in the ground and destroyed parked cars.

Weapons of the Air Defense Forces of Ukraine shot down all 10 ballistic missiles that were fired at the capital at around 3:00 am (01:00 Kyiv time), the Air Force of Ukraine reported in Telegram.

“Just yesterday, President (USA) Biden and I agreed to work on increasing air defense systems in Ukraine. The terrorist state demonstrated how important this decision is,” Zelenskyy wrote in Telegram, referring to Russia.

As a result of falling rocket debris, several people were injured. Buildings have been reported destroyed in four districts of Kyiv along the Dnipro River, which flows through the capital, officials said. According to the city’s military administration, 35 buildings were damaged.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the Russians have Iskander-M ballistic missiles, as well as S-400s: high-speed missiles designed for air defense, but also used to strike ground targets.

The head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, praised the West-supplied air defense systems and their operators after Ukraine shot down all 10. “The effectiveness of Western weapons in the hands of Ukrainian soldiers is beyond doubt,” Yermak said.

The Air Force said it shot down all 10 attack drones launched by Russia over Odesa region in southern Ukraine.

The windows and entrances to the children’s hospital in the Dnipro district of Kyiv were broken by debris, but according to preliminary estimates, there were no casualties, Mayor Vitaly Klitsiko said.

“These (ballistic) missiles fly at a speed of up to 8,000 km per hour,” Klitschko told Reuters during a site visit near one of the damaged buildings.
