General Volodymyr Zavadskyi, the deputy commander of Russia’s 14th Army Corps, has been killed in Ukraine, a local Russian official said on Monday, as quoted by Reuters.

Zavadskyi is the seventh major general and the 12th high-ranking officer who lost his life since the beginning of the Russian invasion of the territory of Ukraine, according to the balance sheet of the press investigation site iStories.

Such losses, which military analysts sometimes attributed to Ukraine’s successes in sloppy interception of communications, were increasingly rare during the war.

The governor of the Voronezh region in Russia, Oleksandr Gusev, without providing details, said that the general died “at a combat post in the area of ​​special operations.”

Moscow uses the term “special military operation” to refer to the war of aggression against Ukraine.

Gusev noted that the former tank commander Zavadsky was repeatedly awarded with awards, and the death of the general is a heavy loss that caused “pain that stuns us.”

The news of the general’s death was also published on the website of the state agency TASS on Monday.

“Wherever the Motherland sent him, he set an example of faithfulness to duty, as evidenced by numerous awards. I am convinced that the name of Volodymyr Zavadsky, a brave officer, a true general and a worthy person, will forever remain in the annals of the glory of the Motherland,” added the governor of the Voronezh region, TASS reports.

The first information about the death of the Russian general appeared on VKontakte, a popular social network in Russia, and was later picked up by a Russian news site and Ukrainian mass media.
