The Russians are trying to reproduce the Ukrainian maritime drone Sea Baby in order to use it against Ukraine, Ukrainian Pravda reports with reference to sources in the special services.
It is reported that the Russians managed to make a “relatively functional” version of the Ukrainian maritime drone Seababy from the remains of several unmanned surface vehicles found after attacks on Russian targets.
According to the source, at the moment the device has been transferred to the Black Sea Fleet of Russia.
“It has been carefully studied and reprogrammed in laboratory conditions. The occupiers hope that in the future they will be able to use the drone against the Ukrainian military. The occupiers are again trying to compensate for the lack of their own technologies at the expense of Ukrainian and Western developments.”
Sea Baby drones successfully attacked the Crimean Bridge, as well as the amphibious assault ship “Olenegorsky Miner” and the Russian oil tanker SIG.
In early August 2023, the British Ministry of Defense assessed the attack by Ukrainian naval drones on the landing ship of the Russian Navy “Olenegorsky Hornyak” in the port of Novorossiysk as a “significant blow” and the ship “almost certainly suffered serious damage.”
Subsequently, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) provided CNN with exclusive footage showing the July moment when they attacked the Kerch Bridge in Crimea, also known as Putin’s Bridge, which connects the annexed in 2014 Ukrainian peninsula and the mainland of Russia.
“Sea Baby” used during the attack on the Kerch bridge
SBU chief Vasyl Malyuk told CNN that the drone, called “Sea Baby,” used in the attack was the result of months of development that began immediately after the invasion.
“Drones on the surface of the sea are a unique invention of the Security Service of Ukraine,” he said. “No one from private companies is involved. With the help of these drones, we recently carried out a successful strike on a bridge in Crimea, an assault on a large ship on Olengirsky Gornyak, and a SIG oil tanker.” – said Vasyl Malyuk, taking responsibility for these three high-profile attacks that happened in the last month.
The SIG tanker that crashed in the Black Sea was carrying fuel for the Russian military, Ukrainian officials say. As for the strike on the Russian amphibious ship, the attack demonstrated greater range for the Ukrainian military, striking a vessel with perhaps 100 people on board in the Russian naval port of Novorossiysk on the eastern Black Sea coast.
The SBU also published an image of the “Sea Baby” drone on the Twitter service.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) showed what “Morske Malya” looks like. This ground-based drone was used to attack the Crimean bridge in July.
