The Ukrainian human rights commissioner accused Russia on Thursday of blocking any exchange of prisoners of war between the two countries, AFP and Agerpres reported.
“The exchange (of prisoners) is not taking place because Russia does not want it,” Dmytro Lubinet, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine’s human rights commissioner, reported on Telegram.
In general, according to data released by the Ukrainian authorities in the middle of this month, more than 4,300 Ukrainians, including more than 760 civilians, have been confirmed to be in captivity in Russia.
The relatives of these prisoners receive financial support from the Ukrainian state.
The most famous exchange of prisoners between the two countries took place last September, when Moscow released the heroes of the Azovstal plant, in particular the commanders of the Azov battalion, in exchange for Viktor Medvedchuk, the “dark prince” of Ukrainian politics tried by Kyiv. for treason in favor of Russia.
Currently, the Russian side does not comment on the accusations made by Lubinets.
