
On Monday, President Vladimir Putin unveiled Russia’s budget for 2024-2026, which foresees an increase next year in defense spending by 66% compared to the current year, reports EFE agency, quoted by Agerpres.
In the conditions of the war in Ukraine next year, Russia’s military expenses will exceed social expenses for the first time. 7.5 trillion rubles ($84.3 billion) is earmarked for the latter, and 10.4 trillion rubles ($111 billion) for defense, which is about a third of the entire budget. For the current year, the defense budget amounted to 6.5 trillion rubles ($66.7 billion).
In the budget projections for 2025 and 2026, the sums allocated to defense are lower than in the 2024 budget, but exceed the funds for 2023, amounting to 8.6 trillion rubles ($88 billion) and 7.5 trillion rubles, respectively ( 77.2 billion US dollars). ).
