The details of the project were kept secret until November 16, although the GUR, together with the Ukrainian special services, hinted that it could be.
The head of the Intelligence Service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (SBU), Kyrylo Budanov, said in June 2023 that more than $700 million had been invested in the Black Box project, adding that it had already caused more than $700 million in damage to Russian forces in the previous month alone.

The Beaver drone is just one component of the Black Box project.
The Come Back Alive Fund was founded in 2014 to provide assistance and funding to the Ukrainian military. As of September 2023, it has raised more than $249 million, according to its website.
The Beaver drone was used for an attack on the territory of Russia
The Foundation’s November 16 announcement states that in the first eight months of 2023, the Beaver, along with other components of the Black Box, caused losses to Russian forces in the amount of more than $900 million. The drone was used for attacks in Crimea, as well as in other parts of occupied Ukraine, as well as in Russia.
Thus, the Castor drone hit various critical targets, including Russian missile production and storage facilities.
Ukraine’s announcement came a week after the Tambov powder factory in southeastern Russia, more than 700 km from the border with Ukraine.
In September 2023, Kyiv admitted for the first time that it had carried out an attack from Russian territory, where, in addition to armed incursions, there were not only numerous drone strikes, but also alleged sabotage.
The Tambov Regional Gunpowder Plant is one of the largest producers of gunpowder for small arms and artillery ammunition in Russia.
On the night of August 1, Ukrainian drones attacked the area of ββthe Russian capital, and one of the strike drones again hit a skyscraper in the Moscow-City IQ complex, where a Ukrainian drone had already flown on July 30.
In the summer, retired Lieutenant General Yuriy Netkatsev told Nezavisimoya Gazeta that, judging by the pictures, Moscow is being attacked by Beaver attack drones capable of flying at a distance of up to 1,000 km.
“Kyiv has the necessary resources for serial production of drones of this type,” the general said at the time.
This was also sarcastically noted by the adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Mykhailo Podolyak, who, after a new drone attack in Moscow, wrote on social networks that the number of “unidentified drones” would increase.
