“The UN has begun to cleanse itself of Russia’s malicious influence. The President of Ukraine added: “The world sees who destroys international law instead of protecting it.”

Zelenskyi also sent his congratulations to the elected judges, in particular to the representative of Romania, Bohdan Auresk.

“I congratulate the representatives of Australia, Mexico, Romania, South Africa and the USA on receiving votes for the Security Council both in the Security Council and in the General Assembly,” Zelenskyy also said.

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Bohdan Aurescu was elected on Thursday as a judge of the International Court of Justice of the United Nationsbeing the first Romanian to perform this function.

Also, for the first time in the history of the ICJ, not a single Russian lawyer was elected.
