
Valery Zaluzhny, a close aide to the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was killed on Monday after an item sent to him for his birthday exploded, a military official said on Telegram, AFP reported.
“Under tragic circumstances, my assistant and close friend Major Gennady Chiastyakov died (…) on his birthday,” said Zaluzhny.
“An unknown explosive device went off in one of his gifts,” he said, announcing the opening of a “preliminary investigation.”
