The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in his video address to the nation on Monday, noted that Sunday’s incidents at the airport in the capital of Dagestan, Makhachikal, which was stormed by protesters looking for Israeli passengers, are already the second time this year that the failed uprising by Russian mercenaries in June shows that Moscow has lost control over events. .
“We must soberly assess the Russian system. They have mobilized all their forces not to lose what they have won in Ukraine, but at the same time they have polluted their territory with such a level of hatred and humiliation that Russia is losing control of events for the second time this year. Either the rebels go to Moscow and no one stops them, or the vertical of power in Dagestan evaporates and a real pogrom takes place. All these are signals that Russia can still resist hostilities and can sometimes increase pressure on the front lines, but it is not capable of resisting this confrontation from a strategic point of view,” Zelenskyi said in an address to his compatriots at the end of the day, News reports. ro.
“Strategically, we must all be strong, we must be united, we must do everything possible and impossible to survive, return our people and prove that freedom is definitely stronger than hatred and aggression. For this we need our unity of all Europe, America, the whole free world. The unit is the most efficient and accurate long-range weapon,” the Ukrainian president emphasized.
As Russia appears to be trying to step up its offensive in the north, south and east of Ukraine in recent days, Zelenskyy praised several Ukrainian combat brigades that are resisting. “I thank all the soldiers who, with their assaults and heroic resistance, actually prove that Ukraine is capable of resisting Russian pressure, capable of destroying the occupiers, capable of victory,” Zelenskyy said.
“The 53rd and 110th mechanized brigades, the 79th airborne brigade – thank you, guys, for Avdiivka and Maryinka! Motor Rifle Brigade No. 14, 32 and 57 – thanks for the defense of the Kupyansk direction. 80th Airborne Assault Brigade and 93rd Mechanized Brigade – thank you, soldiers, for the direction to Bakhmut and for going forward! The 33rd mechanized brigade – thank you for your strength in the battles in the south of Ukraine!”, Zelenskyy listed.
He also told Ukrainians about the “important discussions” he had on Monday with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. “I informed him about the situation on the front line, about our actions and capabilities. I am grateful for the help! For air defense systems, for shells for our soldiers, for the power that helps us secure the eastern part of the Black Sea. Our agreements with Mark, which we talked about during the meeting in Odessa, are being implemented. It is also very important that the Netherlands became the first country outside the G7 with which we started bilateral cooperation on security guarantees,” Zelenskyy recalled.
In calling for the unity and solidarity of the international community, the Ukrainian president also mentioned the meeting with the bipartisan delegation of the US Congress, consisting of three congressmen, who are on a visit to Ukraine. “This is an important solidarity visit. I am grateful to everyone in Congress – from both parties – who is helping to protect freedom, to President Biden and his team, and to every American who feels that freedom in the world can only last when America is strong and when the enemies of the free world have no doubts about America’s leadership I informed the congressmen about the situation on the front lines, about the very successful use of American ATACMS, recently delivered to our defense forces. Of course, we also discussed the issue of continuing military and budgetary support,” Zelensky said, as the political situation in Washington threatens to block American aid to Kyiv.
Last but not least, the situation in the Middle East risks diverting and reducing international attention and assistance to Ukraine. Aware of this fact, Zelensky announced that he had a meeting with Ukrainian officials to determine the strategy. The goal of such a strategy is to “keep the world’s attention on Ukraine, preserve the unity that helps us defend ourselves, and ensure the systemic weakening of the aggressor state,” the Kyiv leader said.
We all have to be realistic about the Russian system.
