The luxurious apartment of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and his wife Elena in Crimea was sold by the Russian authorities at a public auction, reports one of the most popular Russian news sites “Lenta”.
Only two people showed up for the auction held on Monday, reports the RIA Novosti agency, which was the first to make the information public. The winner was a woman named Olga Lypovetska, who offered 44.3 million rubles (about $473,000) for real estate in the “Imperator” residential complex in Livadia, the source said.
In this way, the Russian occupation authorities received 20 million rubles more than the price at which the auction started.
On September 16, the chairman of the local parliament, which is not recognized by the international community, Volodymyr Konstantinov, announced that the apartment of the Zelenskyi family on the peninsula will be put up for sale along with other objects belonging to Ukrainians.
“These are residential premises, including the apartment of the Zelenskys, sanatorium-resort facilities, commercial and commercial facilities,” said a Russian official at the time.
The apartment of the Zelenskyi family in Crimea became the “property of the republic” of Russia
The Russian-appointed authorities in Crimea announced in February that they had nationalized about 500 properties in Crimea, including some belonging to high-ranking Ukrainian politicians and figures.
The luxury apartment of the Zelenskyi family in Crimea was nationalized only in May, although the Russian authorities announced their intention to do so since the end of last year.
The announcement in December 2022 came after two months earlier the State Council of Crimea, another body of the Russian occupiers, amended local legislation to allow the property of foreign states and citizens to be recognized as property of the “republic”.
The changes apply to movable and immovable property owned until February 24, 2022.
Zelensky’s property in Crimea sparked controversy in Kyiv after he became president in 2019, when Ukrainian media revealed in his first wealth declaration that his wife, Olena Zelenska, bought the apartment for less than half the market value.
In total, she paid tycoon Oleksandr Buryak for the penthouse $63,893, which is equivalent to $1,263 per square meter, given that the market value of real estate at the time was between $3,000 and $4,000 per square meter.
