On Friday, a Ukrainian drone released explosives over a power plant in a Russian village located near the border with Ukraine, which led to the termination of electricity supply to a hospital, the governor of the Kursk region said, AFP and Agerpres inform.
In Bila, less than 25 kilometers from the border, “a Ukrainian drone dropped two explosive charges on an electrical substation,” Roman Starovoit reported on Telegram.
“One of the transformers caught fire. Five settlements and one hospital remained without electricity. Fire brigades went to the scene,” Starovoit said, adding that power supply “will be restored as soon as it is possible to do so in complete safety.”
On Friday morning, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that air defenses shot down 10 Ukrainian drones over Kursk Oblast and one over Kaluga Oblast overnight, Reuters reports.
Before that, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported in Telegram about the destruction of two Ukrainian drones over the neighboring Belgorod region. The ministry said the first explosive charge was destroyed around 5:00 p.m. (14:00 GMT) on Thursday, about four hours before the second drone was shot down.
“A Ukrainian drone was destroyed over the Belgorod region by active air defense equipment,” the agency reported.
Belgorod and Kursk regions border Ukraine in the east.
Since Ukraine launched a counteroffensive in early June, Russia has been the target of drone attacks that have sporadically damaged buildings, particularly in Moscow.
The Russian authorities minimized the significance of these attacks.
