With this new payment, the EU transferred to Ukraine 13.5 billion euros of financial aid promised for this year.
“Our commitment to supporting Ukraine is unwavering, and we will continue to play our part in building a modern and prosperous country,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement.
The new tranche of European financial aid will allow Ukraine to continue paying salaries and pensions and maintaining public services, including schools, hospitals and housing for people forced from their homes by the war with Russia, as well as rebuilding bombed infrastructure.
In addition to the package of 18 billion euros for this year, the European Commission has proposed additional financial assistance to Ukraine of 50 billion euros for the period 2024-2027, which, however, requires negotiations with the 27 EU countries and their approval. (Agerpress)
