The Hungarian government official explains the warm relations with the aggressor by energy dependence, but the examples of neighboring countries show that the picture is more nuanced.

The conditions for peace talks are much worse today than they were yesterday, but still better than they will be tomorrow. why Because the more days the war passes, the more people die and the more infrastructure is destroyed. Therefore, the war must be stopped immediately, as the conditions for peace are getting worse every day, the Hungarian Foreign Minister said in a Turkish-language program broadcast by the Bloomberg TV channel.

According to the transcript of the relevant ministry, which was also sent to the editorial office of the Hungarian newspaper “Népszava”, Peter Szijártó stated that relations with Russia are absolutely important for Hungary.

“Is this a political decision? no Does it reflect our political tastes? No, then why? Through physical matter. Energy delivery is a physical problem that requires a source and a channel. If you miss even one of the two, you’re done, you’re nowhere. And if we close the energy connection with the Russians, then, from a physical point of view, the current infrastructure will not be enough to support the country,” said Peter Sijarto.

Nepszava shows that the Czech Republic, which has similar capabilities, managed to abandon Russian gas. Slovakia also succeeded, with a percentage of 70%, and, in fact, it no longer needs Russia for nuclear fuel.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also clarified: “If we block the oil pipeline, for example, from Russia, then there will be a pipe that goes through Croatia, which has a much smaller capacity and will not be able to supply either us or Slovakia, which is now supplied by Russia.” Given that Croatia has increased transit fees, diversification is not promising. The situation is similar with natural gas.

If we stop supplying the Turkish Stream gas pipeline, other incoming pipelines will not be able to supply us. It’s that simple. Not to mention our nuclear project. Therefore, when it comes to areas that are not subject to sanctions, we continue cooperation in the normal mode, because this is our national interest.” (Rador Radio Romania)
