The Kremlin said on Friday it was against British defense contractor BAE Systems’ decision to locate in Ukraine, adding that any factories producing weapons used against Russia would be targets for Moscow’s military, Reuters reported.

Responding to questions about this decision in a telephone conversation with journalists, the press secretary of the Kremlin, Dmytro Peskov, said: “Of course, any facilities for the production of weapons, especially if these weapons are carried out on us, become objects of special attention of our military.” .

According to him, this step will not affect the course of the conflict in Ukraine and will not contribute to reducing hostilities.

BAE Systems, Britain’s largest defense company, said on Thursday that it has established a facility in Ukraine and signed agreements with the government to increase supplies of weapons and equipment to Kyiv.

It said the move would allow BAE to work directly with Kyiv to explore potential partners for a plan to produce 105mm light weapons in Ukraine and better understand Ukraine’s defense needs.

BAE produced much of the equipment supplied to Ukraine by the UK and other governments as it resisted the Russian invasion.

Britain is a key supplier of defense equipment to Ukraine and in May became the first country to start supplying Kyiv with long-range cruise missiles.

Western defense companies have weighed the possibility of producing weapons in Ukraine against possible security risks, Reuters reported in June.
