Russia released a video on Tuesday showing armed soldiers boarding a cargo ship in the southwestern Black Sea on Sunday and questioning the captain about why the ship did not stop when a Russian warship asked him to work, Reuters reported. Things seem incomprehensible to the participants of the discussion because of the language barrier. At some point, the captain starts gesticulating when he notices that the Russian soldier does not understand what he wants to say to him in English.
Russia said it fired warning shots from automatic weapons at the Palau-flagged Sukru Okan after it failed to respond to demands to stop, although it was unclear why the vessel came so close to Turkey.
In a video released by the Russian Defense Ministry, crew members are seen kneeling on the deck with their hands on their heads after a Russian Ka-29 helicopter approaches and Russian soldiers disembark on the ship.
In the footage, which appears to be a naval unit’s body camera, Russian servicemen with automatic weapons can be seen inspecting the ship and going on deck.
“Stop the car, stop the car!” says one of the Russian fighters as the crew members put their hands on their heads and drop to their knees as their guns are aimed to fire.
“Keep calm and listen to me,” says another Russian.
“Greetings, sir. I’m a Russian naval officer – please don’t film my group,” says the Russian military man in English, who asked the captain to speak English as well.

“Speak English!”
The attack on the merchant vessel has heightened already acute concerns among shipowners, insurers and commodity traders about the dangers of the Black Sea, the main route that both Ukraine and Russia use to get their agricultural products to market.
Reuters reported that the ship’s crew or owners could not be reached for comment.
“During the conducted inspection activities, the work of the group was performed professionally, in accordance with the requirements of international documents,” the Ministry of Defense of Russia noted.
“After the completion of the work of the inspection team, an inspection protocol was drawn up on board the Shukru Okan ship, and the ship continued to the port of Izmail.”
The video also demonstrates language barriers. In one sequence, a Russian demands: “Speak English.”
“Yes, I speak English,” replies one of the English-speaking crew members.
The Russian officer then asks the captain through the crew’s interpreter why the ship did not stop as requested.
A crew member interpreting for the captain said he did not understand the Russians’ request to stop.
“You misunderstood,” says the crew member in English, gesturing with a lit cigarette in his hand.
“Thank you, good afternoon, sir,” says the Russian officer as he leaves.
