Russian authorities have detained former Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) officer Mykhailo Polyakov, who is said to be the administrator of several popular Telegram channels covering the Kremlin’s internal politics, the ISW (Institute for the Study of War) reports.

The Moscow police detained Polyakov on charges of extorting unknown Russian politicians and businessmen.

.

Russian sources said that Polyakov runs the Kremlin Laundry channel and is an affiliate or administrator of the Brief and Siloviki telegram channels.

“However, “Brief” and “Sylovyki” deny Polyakov’s involvement in their channels.

These three Telegram channels regularly speculate about internal Kremlin politics and the dynamics between Russian political factions and have contributed to the spread of prominent rumors in the Russian news space, according to ISW.

Channels speculating about the Kremlin’s domestic politics constitute a particular niche in the Russian news space, and Polyakov’s detention suggests that the Kremlin may be intent on suppressing speculation about domestic politics in the wake of the Wagner uprising.
