President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi will go to Istanbul on Friday, where he will be received by the head of the Turkish state Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish press reported on Thursday.
According to the pro-government Turkish newspaper Sabah, cited by AFP and Agerpres, the two presidents will mainly discuss the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain, concluded in July 2022 with the mediation of the UN and Turkey, and for which Russia has said that it does not see “reasons” to continue after expires July 17.
Moscow has complained for months about obstacles to another bilateral deal signed last July with the United Nations on its fertilizer exports, with Russia saying its agricultural sector has been hurt by Western sanctions.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s visit to Istanbul will take place a few days before the annual NATO summit, which will take place on July 11-12 in Vilnius.
On Thursday, the Ukrainian president arrived in Sofia on a one-day official visit, in particular to discuss Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
