Ukrainian writer Viktoriya Amelina, wounded on Tuesday during Russian shelling of a restaurant in Kramatorsk, eastern Ukraine, died on Saturday, a Ukrainian non-governmental organization said on Sunday, AFP reported.

“We would like to inform you that the writer Victoria Amelina died on July 1 in the Meshnikov Hospital in Dnipro,” reads a statement from the public organization PEN-Club of Ukraine, which supports freedom of speech and Ukrainian literature, reports Agerpres.

“Her death was due to non-life-threatening injuries she received during the Russian bombing” of a restaurant in Kramatorsk, the source added.

“We announce this news after all members of the Victoriei family have been informed and with their consent,” the text reads.

The 37-year-old Ukrainian writer was seriously injured during lunch at the Ria Pizza restaurant, which is especially popular among military personnel, volunteers and journalists, and was hospitalized in Dnipro with “multiple fractures of the base of the skull,” said neurosurgeon Vitaly Savenkov.

According to the statement, Viktoria Amelina was in the company of three Colombians, all three of whom received minor injuries.

The death of the writer increased to 13 during the Russian attack on the restaurant in Kramatorsk.

The author of novels translated into several languages, the woman from Lviv after the Russian invasion of Ukraine “went far beyond the limits of literature” and “documented the war crimes of Russia in the occupied territories”, noted the Ukrainian PEN.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said on Thursday that two generals and up to 50 Ukrainian soldiers were killed as a result of a missile attack on the city of Kramatorsk in the east of Ukraine on Tuesday, RIA Novosti reports with reference to Reuters.
