In the photo that appeared online, it can be seen that the Ukrainian military additionally protected the valuable German-made Leopard 2 tanks received from the Western allies.

The video posted on social media shows the Leopard-2 (variant A4) with a significantly altered image, mostly covered with Kontakt-1 dynamic armor blocks and other types of protection, including rubber.

“Kontakt-1” is a type of dynamic armor that began to be developed in Soviet times and consists of “bricks” of plastic explosive placed between two steel panels, designed to soften enemy impacts on the armor it protects.

As the Twitter account that posted the video also points out, the installation of additional protections appears to be serious and not a hackneyed improvisation.

The famous Oryx immediately found a name for the new model

The well-known Twitter account Oryx, which monitors the armaments of the Russians and Ukrainians, quickly reacted by finding a new name for this Leopard 2 variant.

He called it the Leopard 2A4V, explaining that he added a V to the letter of the exact model from the word “Explosive,” meaning explosive.

He immediately updated one of his famous lists, namely the one containing samples of heavy military equipment of the Ukrainian army that were not destroyed by the Russian army.
