Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a new interview with Bild that Ukraine is no longer a sovereign country because it cannot fight against Russia without the support of the West, and that the war will end when the United States wants it to.
“I don’t want to influence Ukrainians, but I always stand for peace, peace and peace. Otherwise, they will lose enormous wealth, many lives and unimaginable destruction. Therefore, the only solution at the moment is peace. Peace means a truce at this time,” he said.
He insisted that he was not referring to specific failures or victories recorded by one side or another during the conflict launched by Vladimir Putin last year, but its final outcome.
“The problem is that the Ukrainians will run out of soldiers sooner than the Russians, and that will ultimately be the deciding factor,” he said.
When asked by Bild that the Ukrainians say they will conclude a truce only after liberating their territories occupied by the invading forces, Viktor Orbán said he was familiar with “this opinion”.
“But what really matters is what Americans want to do. Ukraine is no longer a sovereign state. They have no money. They have no weapons. They can fight only because we support them in the West,” Orbán claimed.
“So if the Americans decide that they want peace, there will be peace,” concluded the Hungarian Prime Minister.
Bild journalists told him that if the NATO countries had followed his advice at the beginning of the war and had not supported Ukraine, the country would now be completely occupied by the Russians.
“This is a hypothesis for which there is no evidence,” answered Viktor Orban.
The Prime Minister of Hungary says that the uprising of Wagner’s mercenaries did not weaken Vladimir Putin
When asked about the events that took place in Russia on Saturday and their consequences, Viktor Orbán said that these events are of minor importance and that he does not think that the position of President Vladimir Putin is in any way weakened by the rebellion started by Yevgeny Prigozhin.
He added that he had information about what was happening in Russia from the special services in Budapest, and they assessed the reprimand as “unimportant.”
“You know, Putin is the president of Russia. Therefore, if someone assumes that he can fall or be replaced, then this person does not understand the Russian people and the power structures in Russia,” he said, explaining that in Russia everything works differently than in European countries.
“Russia works differently than we do. Power structures in Russia are very stable. They rely on the army, the intelligence services and the police, so it’s a different military-oriented country,” he told Bild.
Orban also stated that the uprising will not affect the course of the war in Ukraine.
“I think that everything is over and the war continues. It is not an event that will bring us to peace, because I always look at this war from the point of view of peace, because I think that is the most important thing. This event will not play any role in this,” he also said about Saturday’s uprising.
