The “biggest blow” of the Ukrainian counteroffensive is yet to come, according to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Sky News quotes.

Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said that advancing against the Russian defense proved “difficult”, but that the liberation of the territory was not the only goal.

“You shouldn’t” measure success “exclusively by population centers and kilometers traveled, because there are much more criteria for the effectiveness of combat operations,” she said.

Her comments echoed former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, who told Sky News this morning that 70% of Ukraine’s offensive forces had not yet been deployed.

Russia is “continuing to advance” in eastern Ukraine to consolidate Donetsk and Luhansk regions, while Ukraine is “advancing in several directions from the south,” Malyar said.

“So now it’s hot both in the east and in the south,” she said.
