His former prime minister ScotlandNicola Sturgeon was arrested as part of the SNP funding investigation.
The police confirmed that the 52-year-old woman was detained as a suspect and questioned by investigators. According to the BBC, this is Sturgeon herself.
On 5 April, police raided her home and the party’s headquarters in Edinburgh. They then arrested her husband, Peter Murrell, former general secretary of the SNP, who was released without charge.
Murrell, 58, stepped down as general secretary of the SNP in March.
A police investigation is looking into what happened to the roughly £600,000 (around €701,000) raised by supporters of the Scottish Independence Campaign in 2017, money that should have been spent on related expenses but did not appear in the party’s deposit accounts.
A luxurious motor home that stood near the house of Marel’s mother was also confiscated by the police.
SNP treasurer Colin Beatty was arrested, as was Murrell.
Marel and Beatty were treated as suspects and interrogated for several hours as required by law before being released pending further investigation.
