Ukraine’s Internal Security Service said on Friday it had intercepted a phone call proving that Russian forces blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric plant and dam in the Kherson region of southern Ukraine, Reuters reported.

The Security Service of Ukraine published a one and a half minute audio recording of the alleged conversation.

The SBU claims that the Russians “wanted to blackmail Ukraine by blowing up the dam and caused a catastrophe in the south of the country”, only that the occupiers did more damage than they intended.

“They (Ukrainians, no) are not the ones who beat. Our sabotage group is there. They wanted to scare them with this dam. It didn’t go according to plan, more than they planned,” the Russian military officer said in the alleged conversation.

The Russian military will continue to describe the consequences of the disaster caused by the collapse of the dam, which Russia is trying to hide.

Russia and Ukraine blame each other for the destruction of the Kherson dam.

The collapse of the Novaya Kakhovka dam in southern Ukraine is one of the biggest industrial and environmental disasters in Europe in recent decades.

The water destroyed entire villages, flooded farmland, deprived tens of thousands of people of electricity and clean water, and caused enormous damage to the environment.
