
Russian police have detained more than 100 people who took part in rallies in honor of the convicted dissident’s birthday. Alexey Navalny who is 47 years old today.
OVD-Info, an organization that records protests in Russia, said that 109 people had been arrested in 23 cities by 10:42 p.m. this evening.
Video from Moscow and St. Petersburg shows police arresting individual protesters. One of them held up a banner before being taken away by the police after hearing him moan. Another held a banner reading “Freedom to Navalny” in English and was also arrested in Moscow.
In St. Petersburg, a woman accompanied by a child told reporters that “she and her minor child are under arrest for being against the war” in Ukraine.
