A group of pro-Ukrainian Russian militants said on Sunday that they captured two Russian soldiers during fighting in Russia’s Belgorod region and offered to exchange them during a personal meeting with the region’s governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, Reuters reported.
A joint statement by the Russian Freedom Legion and the Russian Volunteer Corps (TVK) was published on Telegram along with a video that also shows an injured soldier.
“Today is a great Orthodox holiday – the Day of the Holy Trinity. And we, representatives of the RVC and the Legion, offer to exchange two prisoners for just a few minutes of communication with you in the church. Unarmed.
If you come today before 5:00 p.m. to the church on Novaya Tavolzhanka, then we will exchange two prisoners as a sign of goodwill, as they say in our homeland, to have the opportunity to talk with you about the fate of Russia, about the unnecessary bloody war that has been going on for a year and a half is going on even now on the territory of your Belgorod region.
So today until 5:00 PM you have the opportunity to talk without weapons and escort home two Russian citizens, ordinary soldiers, whom you and your political leadership sent to this slaughterhouse. See you soon!” said RVC commander Denis Vaitreks.
