Farage: Brexit failed

Brexit failed. We didn’t get it, and the Tories let us down very, very badly.“. These words belong not to any pro-European politician of the United Kingdom, but to one of the pioneers of the country’s exit from the European Union, Nigel Farage.

Farage made the claim in mid-May on the popular BBC Newsnight show, when he was presented with evidence that Brexit had created serious problems for the growth of the British economy.

A relatively small group of donkey-led political activists who have openly criticized the country’s Euroskeptics since its founding in December 2018 seized the opportunity. So far, through donations, he has managed to put up over 150 giant posters across the UK with a photo of Farage staring at him, which is also the campaign headline: “Brexit Failed.”

After all, the vast majority of public opinion thinks so. A recent Yougov poll showed that 62% of Britons now believe that the country’s exit from the EU has failed, and only 9% say otherwise.

These are the findings of a study by Savanta for the Independent at the beginning of the year. In it, two-thirds of Britons say the UK’s economy, global influence and ability to control the country’s borders have worsened since Brexit.

With these and others already 65% of Britons are in favor of holding a second referendum. An indicator that has grown by 10 points compared to last year, and therefore this issue often occupies the country’s public discussion. In fact, a new word “Bregret” was created. It comes from the words “Britain” and “regret”, which mean “Britain” and “regret” respectively.

The rapid growth of British dissatisfaction with the country’s exit from the EU, and indeed in just two years since the implementation of Brexit, is not at all accidental. Simply because the politicians who promised citizens better days after Britain left the Union turned out to be, to say the least, inadequate.

first of all National Health System countries, the famous NHS, not only did not improve, as Brexiteers promised before the referendum, but, on the contrary, more and more deaf every day. Characteristically, more than 10,000 employees quit their jobs during the year. Positions that cannot be easily filled by EU citizens as it has now become extremely difficult for them to settle in the UK.

On the other hand, a recent study by the London School of Economics (LSE) showed how Brexit costs the average family £210 a year just for food due to additional bureaucracy when importing from EU countries.. And this cost mainly affects low economic incomes. “A decision by a conservative government to create barriers to trade with our largest trading partner is the last thing we need, especially in a cost-of-living crisis,” analysts said.

But also in immigration things are no better. EU citizens working in the UK may have declined, but the number of foreign workers from other countries has risen sharply. If in 2021 these workers were estimated at 2.5 million people, then in 2022 their number exceeded 2.7 million, according to a study by the Guardian newspaper.

Perhaps the most characteristic approach to the situation comes from the mayor of London and a key member of the Labor opposition:Brexit weakened our economy, destroyed our unity and tarnished our reputation. After two years of denial and avoidance, we now have to face the hard truth: Brexit is not working,” he said. Sadiq Khan in his annual address at Mansion House, the official residence of the Lord Mayor of the City of London.
