Russia launched a wave of airstrikes across Ukraine on Sunday morning, and defense systems intercepted all missiles and drones as they approached Kyiv, military officials in the capital said, according to Reuters.

“According to preliminary information, there were no aerial targets in the capital,” Serhiy Popko, the head of the military administration, said in Telegram on Sunday morning.

“The anti-aircraft defense destroyed everything that went towards the city, even at a distance,” he noted.

Reuters says it could not independently verify the claims.

Russia has repeatedly attacked Kyiv since May, especially at night, ahead of Ukraine’s long-awaited counteroffensive to retake territory, which Ukrainian officials say is an attempt to inflict psychological distress on civilians.

Witnesses told Reuters they heard several explosions in Kyiv region, but not in the city, as the air defense systems appeared to have hit their targets.

For almost three hours, all of Ukraine was on alert.

In Ukrainian social networks, there are unverified reports of explosions in Kryvyi Rih in southern Ukraine, near the city of Kropyvnytskyi in the center of the country, and in the Sumy region in the northeast. So far, there is no official information about them.
