The upcoming Ukrainian counteroffensive will be “very impressive,” said General David Petraeus, former director of the CIA and former head of international forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, on BBC Radio 4, the Guardian reported.

Petraeus, who has 37 years of experience in the US Army, explained how Ukrainian troops will strike at enemy lines.

His view is interesting not only because of his extensive combat experience, but also because he was recently in Kyiv, where he met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyi and other high-ranking officials of Ukraine.

His explanations are particularly interesting.

What General David Petraeus had to say about the operation:

“I think this counterattack will be very impressive.

I believe that they will achieve a joint military effect, in other words, they will be able to successfully conduct joint military operations, where they will have genies to break through obstacles and defuse minefields, etc.; armored vehicles, which will be protected by infantry from anti-tank missiles; air defense that will keep Russian planes away from them; electronic warfare that will jam their radio frequencies; logistics are right behind them; artillery and mortars directly ahead.

And the most important thing… is that since the vanguard elements inevitably reach a climax in 72-96 hours – physically that’s all that can be done – and they suffer casualties… they are the reserve units that will continue to push forward, take advantage of the momentum and keep the tempo going and I think that can knock out the whole Russian defense in that area and then I think other opportunities will open up on the flanks.”
