Since early May, Russia has stepped up its drone and missile attacks on Kyiv, often at night, a tactic Ukraine has condemned as aimed at terrorizing civilians, AFP reported.

At least three people, including a child, were killed in one of these attacks in Kyiv on Thursday morning.

On the diplomatic level, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is in Finland on Friday, a northern country bordering Russia that recently joined NATO.

On this occasion, Blinken rejected any ceasefire disadvantageous for Kyiv, stressing that the only way to achieve “real peace” is to continue arming and strengthening Ukraine.

He also believes that the attack on Ukraine turned out to be a “strategic failure” for Moscow.

The day before, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, during an unprecedented European summit in the Republic of Moldova, once again advocated his country’s accession to NATO and the EU, calling on his allies to stop “doubting” this issue.

“Such statements indicate that the Kyiv regime is not ready, does not want, and does not have the necessary means to solve existing problems at the negotiating table,” Kremlin press secretary Dmytro Peskov said.

He said that Moscow will continue to achieve its “goals” and protect its “security”. “This excludes any expansion of the (Atlantic) Alliance and bringing it closer to our border,” he insisted.

Returning to Beijing after a tour of Europe, China’s ambassador to Ukraine admitted that in the current situation there are “numerous difficulties” preventing Russia and Ukraine from starting peace talks.
