One person died and five were injured on Thursday when a billboard collapsed due to sandstorm who sweeps his capital EgyptCairo, according to the state news agency Al-Ahram.
In the capital of more than 20 million people, the sky suddenly darkened due to a sandstorm carrying huge orange swirls.
According to the authorities of the Suez Canal, wind gusts reach 50 km per hour, and waves exceed four meters.
The Egyptian Ministry of Health has advised residents to wear masks and limit going out.
“The most affected areas were Cairo, Suez, Ismailia and the Sinai Peninsula,” said Iman Shaker, a spokeswoman for the Egyptian meteorological service. He also warned that sandstorms would continue on Friday, with air temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.
