France and Germany today called on the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia to organize new municipal elections as soon as possible in areas where unrest has taken place in recent days, French President Emmanuel Macron said.
Serbian Presidents Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo’s Vijosa Osmani held an “informal meeting” today with Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and EU Foreign Minister Josep Borrell on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit in Bulbosa, Moldova.
Previously, the presidents of Serbia and Kosovo have insisted that they want a de-escalation of the crisis in northern Kosovo, but have given no indication that they can step back from their positions. Upon arrival at the summit, Vučić and Osmani did not even greet each other, despite standing on the red carpet a few meters apart.
