The deputy head of Russia’s Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, said on Wednesday that Britain is an “eternal enemy” of Moscow and that any British official who contributed to the war in Ukraine could be considered a legitimate military target, Reuters reported.

Medvedev said British “stupid officials” should remember that Britain can be “considered to be at war”.

“Great Britain acts as an ally of Ukraine, providing it with military assistance in the form of equipment and specialists, that is, de facto waging an undeclared war against Russia,” Medvedev said on Twitter.

“As things stand, any of its government officials (whether military or civilian contributing to the war) could be considered a legitimate military target.”

The statements of the ex-president of Russia were made shortly after the response of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Great Britain, James Cleverley, who stated that Ukraine has the right to strike targets on the territory of Russia for the purpose of self-defense.

“Ukraine has a legal right to defend itself. Of course, it has the legal right to do that within its borders, but it also has the right to send forces beyond its borders to undermine Russia’s ability to deploy forces inside Ukraine,” said James Cleverley, a member of the ruling Conservative Party. “Therefore, legitimate goals outside its own border are part of Ukraine’s self-defense. And we have to admit that,” added Cleverly.
