The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs opened an investigation against the Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine, General Valery Zaluzhny, after Moscow propagandists announced his death in early May, Ukrinform reports.
Journalists of the independent investigative site “Mediazon” were the first to report that Russia targeted the head of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, discovering that his name was entered into the database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moscow.
The move came after the Russian capital Moscow was the target of a drone attack on Tuesday morning, which President Vladimir Putin blamed on Ukraine, accusing in a series of delusional statements that Kyiv was trying to provoke Russia.
Ukraine has denied any “direct” involvement in the attack, suggesting it was orchestrated by Russian guerrillas opposed to Putin.
After information about the persecution of Zaluzhnyi appeared, the Russian state agency TASS reported that the same measure was planned for the commander of the Ground Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi.
In April, Russia also issued an arrest warrant for the head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, General Kyryl Budanov, whom it accuses of organizing terrorist attacks on the territory of the Russian Federation.
How Russian propaganda “killed” General Valery Zaluzhny
The measure now taken by the Russian Ministry of the Interior seems all the more amusing since earlier in May Moscow propaganda insisted that he was dead.
The information in the Russian mass media appeared after it became known that Zaluzhny would not be able to participate in the meeting of the NATO Military Committee, to which Ukraine was invited.
At the opening of the meeting, which took place on May 10, the chairman of the Military Committee of the alliance, Rob Bauer, announced that the Ukrainian general would not be able to participate even in the video conference due to the difficult operational situation at the front. .
Data on the situation at the front in Ukraine was finally made public by the representative of the Ukrainian army at NATO, Major General Serhiy Salkutan.
Although rumors about Zaluzhny’s death were immediately denied in Ukraine, some Russian media and Telegram continued to speculate about it.
Last Thursday, Zaluzhny finally appeared on the air, filmed specifically to stop speculation in the Russian information space.
“Bad news for Russian propagandists! Valeriy Fedorovych is feeling well and continues to plan the liberation of Ukrainian territories from the Russian invaders,” said the Ukrainian officer before the camera showed a smiling Zaluzhny standing nearby.
